What happens to your information

Short, because there is not much to say. This site collects very little.

Who is responsible

Aiisha Dahir is the data controller for this website. For anything on this page, write to ashshifabooks@aiishadahir.com.

When you use the contact form

The form on the contact and speaking pages collects your name, your email address, the kind of enquiry and your message. It is sent to Aiisha by email through a service called Web3Forms, and it is used for one thing: replying to you. It is not added to a mailing list and it is not passed to anyone else. Your message stays in her inbox, the way an email you sent her directly would. The legal basis is legitimate interests: you've asked her a question, and she uses your details only to answer it. Enquiries are kept for as long as needed to deal with them, and deleted within 12 months.

Keeping the form free of spam

The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which works out whether a submission is coming from a person or a bot. It does not track you across the web and it does not build a profile of you.

Visitor numbers

Visits are counted using Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless. It records things like which pages are read and roughly where in the world visitors are, in totals. It does not identify you, follow you to other websites, or build a profile.

No tracking cookies

This site sets no cookies for tracking or advertising. That is also why there is no cookie banner asking you to agree to any.

The newsletter

The newsletter is written and sent on Substack. If you subscribe, your email address is held by Substack under Substack's privacy policy, and you can unsubscribe from any email they send you.

Buying books and joining Ash-Shifa

This website takes no payments. The books are sold on Selar and Amazon, and the Ash-Shifa community subscription is on Selar too. Anything you enter when you buy or subscribe — your payment details above all — is handled by them under their own privacy policies. Aiisha never sees your card details.

Where your information is processed

The form service (Web3Forms), Cloudflare and her email provider (Google Workspace) may process information outside the UK, including in the United States, under the safeguards those providers have put in place.

Where the site is hosted

The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes requests in order to serve the pages to you.

Your rights

You can ask to see what information Aiisha holds about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Email ashshifabooks@aiishadahir.com and she will deal with it. If you are not happy with how your information has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
